HI, I have a problem in which I can not see folders in one of my computers on
a home network.
In my case I have 5 computers connected via a central hub. The network is a
hardwire lan, and I also have a WAN for my work laptop.
4 computers run XP Pro and 1 run Vista, an all run fine.
The computer I have problems seeing is an AMD model, the rest are Intel.
All the other computers can see each other, and the contents of the shared
drives.
The problem computer (AMD) can see all the other computers and shared
drives. The other computers can see the computer, BUT none can see the
folders within the AMD computer. I get the message Computer-1 is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use .....(rest).
I have checked the drives and folders and the are set for sharing read/write.
I have checked the security settings and they appear to be okay (from my
understanding).
All computers have the latest Service Packs installed. The problem was there
before I updated so have ruled out the service pack being the problem.
I do remember that before I did a reinstall I was able to see the drives and
folders. I did a re-install as I installed new hard-drives.

Don't know what else to include, sorry, but I hope the info is enough to get
some idea of my problem.

While I am at it, can I name the network anything I want (within reason) as
long as all are the same?

Regards Kevin.

It could be a firewall issue. For troubleshooting, please start the
problematic computer to run safe mode with network. This how to may help.

First have a look at your pc in the firewall exeptions tab. See is Printer
and File sharing is in the list. If it is not then do the following:

1. dissable your share folders from being shared
2. Go to Settings/Network Connections
3. Right click on your connection
4. Go to File and Printer Sharing..... and Uninstall it
5. Reboot your System
6. Go back to Settings/Network Connections and install File and Printer
Sharing
7. Go to My network Places and Run the Wizzard
8. Make your folders sharable again
9. Go to the windows firewall and have a look if Printer and File sharing is
in the list. (It should)
10. Boot your system.

It worked for me.

Good luck.
