XP will copy photos to a CD-R or CD-RW very easily.
1. Place a blank CD-R or CD-RW in your drive. Wait 15-20 seconds for XP to
recognize the drive. A window will open presenting various options. Click on
the cancel button to close this window. If this window does not open, just
continue.
2. Click on My Computer and open the folder where your photos are located.
Select the photos you want to copy to the CD.
3. Look at the menu on the left of the files you selected, under Picture
Tasks, click on Copy to CD.
4. A message will open, bottom right hand of your screen "You have files
waiting....". Click on this message.
5. A window will open, showing the files you selected to copy. Look at the
menu on the left and click on "Write to CD".
6. A Wizard window will open, just follow the directions on the screen to
complete the task.
If you want to add photo files to this CD, just insert it instead of
inserting a blank CD and follow the same steps.
Note: At step 3 above, when you look at the menu on the left you should see
Picture Tasks. If you don't, change the view from folder (a display of
folders on your computer) to tasks. To do this, click on the yellow folder
icon on the top bar to change from folder display to tasks display.
For your scanner, you indicate that this was working on 98. In order for it
to work under XP you will need to go to the manufacturer's Internet site and
obtain a driver for your scanner that is compatible with XP. A driver file
should be available. Download the file in a folder and then double click on
the file to install it. If it is an old scanner, the manufacturer may not
have an XP driver. If they have a driver for 2000, use this driver. When you
install it you will get a warning that it is not approved for XP, just click
on Continue. 2000 drivers will work on XP.
