Whenever I attempt "Save or Create" a movie file I
receive an error "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the
movie to the specified location. Verify that the
original source files used in your movie are still
available, that the saving location is still available,
and that there is enough free disk space available, and
then try again."

I have tried everything. I have seen a few postings with
the same problem but never a solution. I've heard about
the file being "too complex" so I have even tried to
import a single picture to my timeline and record it out
as a movie only to get the same error. I have 42 gig of
hard drive space available and 512mb of ram.

Has anyone had this problem and been able to get past it?

Your help would be appreciated,
Eric

OK I'm updating my own posting.... I just found that I
was able to change the file setting to DV-AVI (NTSC)and
my projects will render and save. I'm now assuming that
there must be a codec issue with WMA files. I attempted
to try all other settings from 340kbs broadband movie to
a High Quality Video NTSC and none of them work.

Is there another codec I need to download? I have
windows movie player and I assume the required WMA codecs.

Hey Eric, if you find any solution could you e-mail me
please. I have the same problem and dont want to save the
movie in DV-AVI mode because it takes up around 10GB
which is basically all I have left.

Regards,
Matt.

i can't get moviemaker-2 to recognise my cd writer.
and have been working on this problum for 3 days.
phone calls to hp, microsoft, msn.
seems to be falling on deef ears ?

You need to make sure recording is enabled for the CD-RW. Right click on the
CD-RW through My Computer and click Properties. Click the Recording tab and
make sure "Enable CD recording on this drive" is ticked.

Eric,

I talked my brother through his initial startup with Movie Maker this
morning. He had the same issue as you - could render a DV-AVI file but not a
WMV one. It ended up being resolved by downloading/installing the Windows
Media Encoder package. There's a link to it on the Setup... Software page of

Seems more like a missing or corrupt piece of Windows XP the Movie Maker
needs to run, as opposed to a codec issue.
