I've tried everything and I can't get a single project to save as a movie
file. I keep getting the message "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie
to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in
your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available,
and that there is enough free desk space available, and then try again." I
have 512 MB of RAM, plenty amounts of COMMIT memory, and plenty of hard drive
space. I already tried reinstalling Movie Maker, loggin in with a different
user, and running utilities like regmon and filemon. Like I said, I've tried
setting up a project with one photo, no audio, no captions, no titles, and no
transitions, but nothing works. Any suggestions???

Maybe the following article will offer some ideas:

Same thing just happened to me. I had a lot of clips mixed, about a dozen or
so less than half a second each.

One thing you might try is switching from saving movie file in best format
for this computer to "high quality (large)". It worked like a dream. I was
afraid it would be too large, but it was fine.

Also you might try saving sections then joining them together.

I've already been to the website and read the whole article. At this point I
can't even take one picture and save it as a movie.

Sorry, that didn't work for me. I can do the same identical test on my
laptop with no problem.

I tried all the suggestions and every instance was the same result - "Windows
Movie Maker cannont save the movie..."

All of my pictures are in JPEG format. I also tried your suggestion of a
BMP, and the same message comes up. I've been playing with Roxio DVD Builder
and I think I'm going to use that instead. Besides, MOV is a supported in
DVD Builder.

MM2 (v2.1) is simply full of weird errors. I had a similar issue when I try
to do the same thing on my "very clean" laptop. I can save in DV-AVI but not
in WMV, keep getting the infamous "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie
to the specified location...." message. I have no such issue on my desktop
computer.

It is quite a haunting task to try troubleshooting this issue if you follow
what others suggest in this forum. Check codec...etc Why Mirosoft makes
life so hard for average users.

Anyway, I followed a suggeston on the net and it works for me. Uninstall my
existing Media Player 10 and install the latest Media Player 11 Beta. All of
a sudden, I can now save move file as it should in the first place. Probably
it fixes some underneath codec issues. Just a wild guess.
