Unable to save Contacts

I am unable to save contacts in my profile in Outlook
2000. When I attempt to save the contact, the message
reads, unable to save contacts, the folder has been moved
or deleted, do you want to save the contact saved in the
default folder? I click Yes, and recieved operation
failed message. What is going on?

I attempted to reinstall office multiple times, and
reconfigured the profile of the user and installed the
profile, but no luck.

Any ideas?

Is this Contacts folder in an Exchange mailbox or in a .PST file? If the
latter, how many items does the folder already contain?

The contacts is a PST file. I am wondering if I should have installed Office as the Administrator instead of the user. May seem like stupid thing to do, but I wasn't even thinking.
