unable to run CDs

Mike

I have just bought a couple of CDs but cannot get them to
operate with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (they
state they are for Windows 3.1 & 95 so I presumed they
would also be OK with the updated XP Home Edition).

After following the installation instructions and typing
in D:\SETUP.EXE, I get the message "C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Any ideas most welcome on what is going wrong.

Many thanks, Mike

Many thanks for the lead but I have tried following the
instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=324767
without success (see below). Any further advice?

After typing in cmd and then "expand CD-ROM Drive
Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt"
after "C:\Documents and settings\M>" (to give
C:\Documents and settings\M> expand CD-ROM Drive
Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt" I
get the message "Destination is not a directory:
c:\windows\system32\config.nt."

I also tried the alternative method using Notepad but
cannot locate a "%SYSTEMROOT%\System32" folder and
neither do I understand point 6: "Note: The Command.com
file is not edited or created in this in the following
process. Because of this, you may have to expand it from
your Windows XP CD-ROM."

Thanks, Mike
