I posted this a couple days ago, but didn't get a reply.
On the off chance that someone just overlooked it, I'm
reposting.

I had a system crash and had to reload W2000. Luckily (I
thought) I had a backup on a another hard drive. So I
clicked on the file, and selected as directed, and hit the
restore button. Again I was asked for the file name. So I
clicked on the file again, etc. etc. ad infinitum. I was
unable to look at the contents of the backup file, btw.
Thinking there was a problem with the file, I did a mini
test backup of recent files, and tried to restore those--
same result.

I'm running W2K Pro SP4, on an AMD 750 MHz Athlon, 700+ MB
of RAM, 60 GB hard drive divided into 4 partitions. No
matter where I put the backup file, the restore comes up
showing F drive. Searching around, I saw that it's
looking for NT tape device...but it was backed up to a
hard drive and it didn't complain. I need some help
restoring these files from backup.

Hi Joy,

Not sure but since you have not had any replies perhaps this will help...

- Click Start, Click Run, type the following command and click OK.
ntbackup
- Select the Restore Tab
- From the Tools menu select Catalog a backup file...
- Click the Browse button to select your *.bkf and click OK

And if that does not help try configuring Backup so that it does not use the catalogs
on the media (that is, let backup scan your entire backup set to build a new
catalog). To configure Backup to do that:

- From the Tools menu select Options and on the General tab click to clear "Use the
catalogs on the media to speed up building restore catalogs on disk.".
- Then select "Catalog a backup file..." as outlined above.

For more information search Windows Backup Help (ntbackup.chm) for the topic "To set
backup options".
