I have windows xp, and My pc keeps shutting down and, after the error report,
microsoft said it is a virus so I ran the protective scan on the microsoft
safety website. It found 15 threats but all of them said they were "unable
to clean." It said to check the boxes then click next, but there was no
place to check and no next button. If anyone knows anything I can do I would
appreciate your help. Thanks

Get David Lipman's Multi-Av package. It does a lot better job than that MS
stuff.

Faily that, try the Kaspersky online scanner. It is quite a bit better than
MS.

Follow the procedures here, doing all the preparatory work and virus
scanning with a first-line tool:

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this - take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not
your local version of BigStoreUSA).
