Hi,

When booting up, windows wants to boot directly a user 'Mary'. Mary has been
removed as user but the sys stills wants to boot that user. As admin I tried
to search for the boot up file where such default can be stored w/no avail.
Where should I look?

TIA

Mike

Go to Start -> Run.
Copy and paste the following into the Open box:

control userpasswords2

Click OK.
First, put a check mark in the box next to "User must enter a
user name and password to use this computer".
Next, in the "Users for this computer" box, click on the
account you want to have logged on automatically.
Go back and uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password
to use this computer".
Click OK.
In the box that pops up, make sure the account you clicked on
earlier is entered next to User Name.
Enter your password twice.
Note: You can leave the password box blank if the account does
not have a password.
Click OK.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

If you can't set up the correct account to logon automatically
using this method, take a look at this article and see if you
have better luck using the TweakUI program from Microsoft:

Configure Windows XP to Automatically Login

Good luck
