For the life of me, I can't find a way to recording anything from the
microphone port on my computer. I have a dell dimensions desktop, running on
windows XP. I tried testing it by hooking an electric guitar into it (through
an amp, of course), and no waveform appears when im recording. I have tried
this both with audacity and windows sound recorder. I made sure that nothing
was muted in the recording options in volume control. In those options, i
have tried selecting both line in and microphone, and neither has worked. I
can't think of any more information to give at the moment. So if anyone has
an idea or two at why it isnt working, i would really appreciate it.

Please note, the XP Sound Recorder will record for 60 seconds only.
First, check if the Mike is in the proper jack and not the headphone jack.
Second, if your buddy has a PC check the Mike on his to test it. Does the
Mike itself have an On/Off button? Next go to:
Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio>Audio tab>Sound Recording
check if it set to the proper Default device. Post back.
Freeware - Audio Editing Tools - (scroll down to Audacity)

Well, it turns out the headphone and line out jacks weren't working on the
amp. I tried hooking up my keyboard and it records fine. Thanks for your help
anyway. Now I just have to get it to record quieter, audacity keeps
"clipping" it...
