I'm having quite a strange problem with Outlook 2k version 9.0.0.2711.
This is in a corporate LAN environment in which I'm using a POP3
server with win2k.

Problem Description: Usually at least once a day my outlook mail (not
exchange) stops sending and receiving email with the following error
code.

*Unable to connect to the server. (Account:
'propermailservername.com',SMTP Server: 'propermailservername.com',
Error Number: 0x800ccc0e).*

Problem Fix: The only way I am able to send mail is to either 1 close
outlook and reopen it, and if that doesn't work I have to remove and
then re-add my mail account via tools options accounts. This is the
only way my mail will start working. I have triple verified that all
my settings are as they should. And because simply removing and
adding back my account info fixes the problem, all I can gather is
that this is some kind of corrupt account or something of that nature
that is software based. Also note that at all times I am able to ping
my pop3 mail server with good responses.

If anyone knows how to resolve this issue that would be greatley
appreciated as I'm at a loss for new ideas besides backing up my mail
saved on my HD and blowing out outlook or the pst file or whatever.

Thanks,
Jai

If you are using Outlook for your corporate email, then you should ask
your system administrator for help. If you are using Outlook for
personal email from with your corporate LAN, then your problem may be
caused by port blocking. Many corporate sysadmins block ports 25 and
110 to prevent unauthorized SMTP email. Here is the relevant Microsoft
Knowledge Base article.

Here is another article on the same subject.

<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;820672>

For more like this, type "microsoft help and support" in the Internet
Explorer address bar, and follow the top link in the search results page.

I had this same problem when my company switched from a mix of email
clients to strictly Lotus Notes. Since all Notes email flows through a
Domino server, ports 25 and 110 were blocked. At first I was able to
send and receive POP3 email intermittantly, but soon the ports were
completely blocked. Now the only alternatives to the corporate email
system are web-based email like Yahoo! and Hotmail.

If I were you, I wouldn't send and receive personal email at work
anyway, since you can be held legally liable for the contents of the
email. Using personal email at work could cost you your job. Many
corporations routinely monitor individual users for compliance with
company policy. Be careful.

Thanks for the response, but this is not personal email on a corporate
network.
This is corporate email using a pop3 server to connect to it. This
problem is affecting only my pc while many many other users don't
experience the same problem and they get their mail just fine.
Because this problem is affecting only my pc, I don't see this to be a
server problem but a problem with my client. That being the case I
know that ports 25 and 110 are open and working fine. Its just my
client. If anyone knows where to go from here that would be great.

Thanks,
Jai

Do you have any anti-virus software on your machine that is checking
outgoing mail? That has been known to cause this problem.

we have had the same problem with one client on the network. To fix the problem he logs off the computer and logs back in and that fixes the problem for a while. We asked other about the problem and the latest "fix" was to try replacing the network card in the problem computer. We did that and it didn't work. We use broadband for internet access with a pop 3 server. We all have Norton Anti-virus on the computers but only that computer has those problems. We have also uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook with the same results. We are searching for the reason why this is happening. If we find anything out we'll post an answer.
