Version of installed PowerPoint Software?
Operating system?
Is the file a valid PowerPoint presentation?
What version of PowerPoint was it created with?
Has it ever opened on this machine?
What media is it stored on?
If a removable media, was it edited in place?
Have you installed any new software since it last ran?
Have you done a 'Detect and Repair' on PowerPoint?
This will help us to understand what isn't happening that should and why.
