Hi,
I'm having problems with my DVD ROM, being unable to read the content - giving the typical message "A disk with an unsupported format in drive X". However this is not an everyday problem, since rebooting my computer with the disc present causes the disk to get readable again. This rule goes with any kind of format expected to run, so the problem is not related to a specific format or media type.
To avoid any confution, here is a list of things that are NOT related to my problem (since rebooting with the DVD in eliminates my problem ... until I want to read another disk with another format of course)
1) The lense is clean
2) There is nothing wrong with the DVD drive itself (hardwarewise)
3) When XP decides that the format is readable, the devide works completely ( so there is no periodic or unperiodic failure to the hardware (or software))
I have also tried to disable the DVD driver/drive in the device manager, rebooting the computer, which detects the new device and installs the driver again.... this does not help either.
.... could this be related to third party software using the DVD rom messing up my registry settings? ... I find that strange, since the device works after reboot ...
I'm kind of lost here I guess ... out of ideas ... I'm getting tired of turning off my computer in order to make it work.
