Hi all,
I have a Dell laptop and they recently replaced my motherboard, after which I needed to re-install my printer.
Well, I can't seem to do it. When I try, it tells me that the printer spooler is disabled or has no enabled devices associated with it.
Then, I went directly to the spooler options and tried to start it (it showed it was stopped). From there, it will not start, giving me the error 1608. I can't manually start the spooler and I can't manually add the printer. Almost seems like a "which came first-the chicken or the egg". Without the printer installed the spooler won't start and without the spooler being on, I can't re-install the printer!
Anyone have any ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer. Melissa

I have just started my printer spooler

START,RUN,type in services.msc,click O/K
go down to print spooler, double click, then start print spooler
Hope this helps

If the above doesn't work, this worked for me on a Win2K, Sp4, Dell Pc, HP Printer:

I've solved the issue when trying to add a printer, the print spooler starting then stopping after a few seconds.

ERROR: "printer cannot continue due to lack of resources"

HOW I SOLVED THE ISSUE:

Step 1: IMPORTANT: Back up your registry, just in case.

Step 2: Clean printer drivers using the following link:
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

WARNING: Be very careful using regedit - if you delete the wrong things, you may render your computer inoperative! If you are not confident, use the cleanspl.exe Resource Kit.

Step 3: Download Microsoft Hotfix 820550:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/820550

WARNING: Back up your system before you download (registry etc.), just in case.

Step 4: Plug in your printer and reinstall the software, you should be able to print a test page and it should work!

I hope this is helpful to someone!
