I am unable to use the write-record feature of my CD. It is a Dell Dimension
4400.
When the CD is inserted and closed you see the CD activity light starts
blinking non-stop.
For example, I placed the CD in at 9:11 p.m.
At 9:14 p.m it stopped blinking and the CD ejected itself.
I have something called Roxio Easy CD Creator but I can't even get the CD to
stay in the slot.

It's a Maxell CD-R CD.
700 MB
CD Recordable
80 min.

If this machine is still under warranty, you should call Dell Tech
Support. It sounds like the drive itself may be bad.

It definitely should be a CD-RW. At least that is what I ordered.
When I open My Computer under devices with removable storage the CD shows
clearly:
CD-RW drive (D:)

HOWEVER, after what you mentioned I went and right clicked on CD-RW to get
properties, I go to the hardware tab, it shows:
Name: Liteon LTR-24102M Type: CD-ROM Drives
In the hardware tab I highlight my CD then click on properties again it
shows under device type: CD-ROM drives.
Under the driver tab I have the following information:

Provider
Roxio
Version 5.10 (103)
Copyright 2001 Roxio, Inc.
Not digitally signed
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\
cdr4_xp.sys
cdralw2k.sys
cdrom.sys
imapi.sys
lmapiRox.sys
MxlW2k.sys
pwd_2k.sys
redbook.sys
storprop.dll

Do you have the AUTORUN turned on ? It almost sounds like you do as its
searching for a Setup file and cannot find it and then gives up. I turned
off autorun and eject and Roxio works fine on my Windows 98SE and Server
2003 (upgraded my XP Pro last week and it worked there also)
