I am tring to publish my web site to http://(local) but I keep getting a
window saying that it is unable to open http://(local)...possible causes: 1.
The web server may not have server extensions installed (...but they are). 2.
The web server my be temporarily out of service etc...etc.

Do I need to do something ?

I assume your OS is Windows 2K Pro or XP PRO with IIS installed??

Correct??

If so, did you install the FrontPage Extensions and / or extend the
"Default web site"????

In IIS on a local machine, everything "lives" in the Default web site.
You need to go into computer management and see what is actually in IIS.
Right click My computer and select Manage.

Scroll down to and click the plus by Services and Applications.
Click the plus by Internet Information Services.
Click the plus by Web Sites

Right click Default web site, scroll to All tasks and select "check
server extensions"

I'm also having the same problem in XP Pro sp2 with FP2003.

I can open up http://localhost and see my website if I copy it to the
default c:\ineptpub\wwwroot folder. So I should be able to setup my remote
webiste to use http://localhost. Yet it always returns an error stating the
same thing Colin mentioned.

I checked my default web site - all tasks - check server extensions and it
performed the "Checking Web http://" test. It stated no problems found - End
Check. So I assume it has the Server Extensions.

ControlPanel add/remove states they are installed. Is there another 2k3 FP
Server Extensions I need to install? I did a Full Install of FP2003, so I am
not sure what I am missing.

You should never copy anything to c:\ineptpub\wwwroot
- that is a reserved folder (for http://localhost/) managed by IIS and the FP SE when applied
You should only be either
- opening the server based location as http://localhost/ and adding / editing pages or subwebs in FP
- publishing from another FP web (disc or server based) to http://localhost/
