I just got a new laptop 2 weeks ago and have been all through the settings
for IE 6 and I can not play imbeded videos from certain websites. OS is Win
XP SP2. Firewall is off and Win Media Player is installed as is ActiveX,
DirectX and Shockwave. Another computer with the same settings plays fine on
same websites.

Give an example of those "certain websites" so we, too, can visit to
see what you mean by "embedded videos".

Considering it is porn, you'll probably need their "special" decoder
or codec. I did find one that shows some guy singing and minimal
nudity and it played okay. When I right-clicked on it to see
Properties, I noticed it is Flash content. You'll need to install
Macromedia's Flash Player. You mentioned having the Shockwave Player
but that's not the Flash Player.

Actually there is more than just porn there. As for the Macromedia Flash
Player, Adobe purchased Macromedia a year ago and it is now Adobe Flash
Player - which is installed. I was able to download one of the clips from
the site and it is a Windows Media Player file - WMV.

Then it looks like you are missing a codec or it is corrupt. You
could search around MIcrosoft's web site looking for codec packages to
reinstall. I found one at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/format/codecdownload.aspx.
I don't know if that site uses DivX (don't know if that's used in .wmv
but it sometimes shows up in .avi).

Tried updating Media Player and it says it is up to date. I can play them on
another computer that is running XP as well - same security settings.
<shrug> Thanks anyway.
