When I Copy a sentence from IE. Then open Word 2003 and past the sentence
into the Word page I get a small icon which resembles a small calculator.
Can somebody please explain what I'm doing wrong and how I might resolve my
problem?
Nick

It's interesting the varying descriptions people give of this icon, which is
actually meant to be a clipboard. It's the Paste Options button. If you
click on it, you get some choices about how you want to paste what you just
pasted. If it annoys you, you can disable it on the Edit tab of Tools |
Options.

Thank you Suzanne for your prompt reply.
Will it make a difference if Word is not open when the copy is made? If I
open Word before I make the copy, it will paste the text into the open
document without the icon showing. I have tried to click on the "Clipboard"
icon and nothing happens?
Nick

Ah, maybe it's not the Paste Options icon. Maybe it's the Bluetooth thing
people are seeing (or something). Do you have Word as part of Works Suite?
If so, one of the many nasty habits of the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for
Word is that it clears the Clipboard when Word is started. If you do have
Works Suite but are running Word freestanding (not launching it from the
Works Task Launcher), you should uninstall the add-in (through Control Panel
| Add/Remove Programs).

No, the add-in is irrelevant in this case. You appear to be using the Office
Clipboard, but your screen shot doesn't show the icon you're getting clearly
enough for me to determine anything. I have seen references to a similar
problem before, but the icon was described as a mobile phone. If yours is
subject to that interpretation, then that problem has been associated with
Bluetooth adapters. Would that be relevant in your case?

I have Office 2003, which includes Word 2003. Will this set-up clear the
clip board when Word opens? if so this would explain my symptoms, I never
had this phenomenon before with Word 2000 part of Works Suite 2000 .

Although I found it hard to believe that a programme which in no way was
connected to Word could affect the Word programme, I un-installed the
Bluetooth software.
Surprise! Surprise! The problem is resolved.
Thank you both for your help and suggestions
