When I try to open Word 2000 in Windows 98, it just hangs there. After several... minutes (perhaps 10) it finally opens. I have no problem opening Excel or Publisher within seconds. Thanks.

Disable the Office Plug-in from within that application. It seems there may
have been a problem with a recent update that is causing this widespread
problem. If that really is the case watchout for an update soon that will
fix it.

Yes indeed, open Norton AV, then its in options > misc. Uncheck the box.

Thank you so much. I work for a small non-profit with only 8 actively used computers. So far 3 of them have complained of this same problem. Thanks to you I was able to get them up and running smoothly again. I really appreciate your guidance.
