Unable to open two of my profiles

In the last few days my WinXP has started some weird behavior-chiefly it fails to open up using my two common profiles. I click on the profile name and nothing but nothing happens and i have to do a physical shut down and open. The profile that continues to work is my guest profile but that has the least access. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
