Spmehow when I copied to my CD the pictures were saved
as "CTG" files. I show that I cannot open them with any
of my current programs. The really, really awful thing is
I deleted them on my camera, I have done this many times
before with no problems. I show I have 414mg within the
folder so they must be there. These, of course, were
really special pictures.

I've never seen a .ctg file so I'm only speculating but
what happens if you copy the files back to your hard
drive and rename the files as .jpg?

Maybe you could recover the files from your memory
card with software of the following type:

According to what I've found:

http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/secrets.html
Secrets of the PowerShot 600

..CTG files are created by Canon PowerShot cameras and are Catalog files used
by the download software.

From this page:

http://www.klingebiel.com/tempest/hd/Stamp_2.6_User_Guide.htm

"Most digital cameras create special files on their storage media that
contain settings or other maintenance information. For example, many Sony
cameras create a file named "MEMSTICK.IND" on their Memory Sticks, and many
Canon cameras create files named "D.CTG", "100.CTG", "101.CTG", etc. on
their CompactFlash media. These files should not be processed by Stamp since
they do not contain picture or audio/video content and because they are
required for your camera to function properly."

I believe John's advice, attempting to recover the files from the memory
card, to be best bet; .CTG files appear to NOT be image files.

.

"414mg"?? Milligrams? Are you confusing disk content with
the amount of Thorazine you took before trying to transfer
your images?
