Hello, I have a user that uses Outlook 2000 SR1. The user
is having problems accessing her Personal Folder located
on the server. Here is the error.

"Unable to display folder. An error occured that
prevented the file H:\...pst from being saved. Close then
restart all mail-enabled applications."

I've had the user close and restart Outlook as well as
restarting the machine. She will gain access to the
folder for a few minutes and then is locked out again.
Any ideas? Thank you in advace for any help.

I seem to recollect reading that MS did'nt recommend placing a pst on a
server.
Have you tried repair tool, scanpst.exe?
David

That is correct, Microsoft doesn't but it works in so many configurations
that you might consider it a feature anyway.

Other than David already mentioned; what is the size of the pst-file, how
fast is the network connection to the server and how busy is the server the
pst-file is on?

The pst-file could be getting disconnected because of a bad network
connection (it crashes the second the connection gets lost). Also when the
time changes on the client the connection is lost most of the time as well
as the timing for appointments gets out of synch.

Hope this helps!

Corporate policy here actually dictates pst's on servers due to backup.

I did resolved the issue through deleting the personal folders in the
services menu and re-adding it.

Thank you for your help.

Great that it works now! Perhaps they can place back an old backup as well
so you won't loose your archive?

I am having a similiar problem, EXCEPT, my pst file is not on a server. I had copied the pst to a CD and brought it home to load on my computer here.

I get the same error as mentioned in this original thread. I close the application and used the detect and repair function. It ran through the installation for Outlook sr-1 and rebooted my machine.

I am still having the same problem. I read that Lance had deleted the pst in the services menu, but I do not know where this menu exists on my machine to do the same.

Also, before I get the same error Lance had been getting, I get another error that states: Properties for this information services must be set up prior to use.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

Copy the PST file to your hard drive and, in its Properties dialog, turn off the read-only property.

I'd check the read-only status again. All the symptoms you have point to that being the problem.

I do not mean to be rude, but I have checked it numerous times and have two other people here as witnesses - next suggestion?
