Unable to open program

For several years have used homebase to list my book
collection. After a recent backup to CD the following
appeared on my screen when I tried to open
HomeBase. "3197 The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped
the process because you and another user are attempting to
change the same data at the same time" There are no other
users and I cannot break through this seeming barrier. Can
anyone help please?
 
the datbase became corrupt. Try running jetcomp.exe on the database
you may also want to update to the current version of the Jetengine after
you fix it!

Wayne - Using 'Search' and 'Run" have tried to find
jetcomp.exe but with no success "Unable to find..."
 
Thanks John A - I'm part way there but need some more
advice. Have downloaded Jet.comp but where it says
Database to Compact "path and name" is there some
jargonese to use to describe this?. I inserted My
Documents HomeBase but it gave me the Bronx cheer so I'm
stuck - the same goes for the Instruction 3 "path and
name" Thanks again - my education is being expanded Ted
