Unable to open ppt files

Kelly

I recently purchased Office Pro 2003 and one day it
worked great and the next day I couldn't open a single
ppt file. PP doesn't recognize any ppt files. Even when
I created a new ppt file it wouldn't read it after it is
saved and closed. I have re-installed, detected &
repaired, and moved ppt files around but all to no
avail. I've downloaded the only upgrade available and it
still doesn't work. Does anyone have a solution?

Kelly,

Are you saying it doesn't open files created in previous versions, as well
as ones created in the new version? Do you know if you installed any other
sort of software recently? Are you getting any specific error messages?

Also, I would be happy to look at a file you can't open, and see if I can
open it here. That would confirm whether it is something peculiar to your
installation, or PowerPoint wide. Please remove spaces from within my reply

Hi Glen,

Please HELP!
I also faced the same problem as Kelly's. I can't send you
the file as it is very confidential, do you have any
solution for it? The presentation format is on-screen
show, after writing some notes on it from a tablet pc, i
can't open it anymore regardless from other versions of
powerpoint in other pcs or the same tablet pc i have saved.

Thank you.
Rgds,
Vivian

Hi Vivian,

Do you get an error message of some type, as that may help define what type
of problem it is?

I guess inability to open may be a couple of things. But if you feel the
file is corrupt, you could try the things listed here:

That sounds like a bug which was supposed to be fixed with the Office
service pack/service release. Go to Help/Check for Updates and let
Office apply the service pack.

Hopefully that will fix it.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

If you can create new presentations but cannot open them, it sounds like
you are running into the problem described in the following KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=329820

If so, follow the recommended methods for working around the problem.
