I am getting the following error messages when i try to
open a blank microsoft powerpoint or any powerpoint
presentation:

"Powerpoint failed to launch in safe mode, would you like
to do a detect and repair?"

...saying yes to detect and repair did not fix the
problem..so when i click on 'no', i get another error
message:

"Microsoft office Powerpoint encountered a problem and
needs to close"

----
I have tried a detect and repair on the program, and i
tried to uninstall and reinstall the entire office 2003,
but it still did not fix the problem.

help!

How can i obtain the latest patches for powerpoint? I've
installed all critical windows updates already. is that
different?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello,

It's possible that you are encountering a problem with 3rd party adware
software that conflicts with PowerPoint. We are aware of at least one such
product that causes this with a variety of products (including PowerPoint).

For more information and instructions on how to remove this adware product,
check the security response page at:

Office Programs fail to run even in safe mode detect and repair does not fix problem

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I agonized for five days before I finally found the fix. I tried everything I could think of at the time and everything suggested on the internet forums. I ran every registry repair software I could find, every malware, antivirus I could get my hands on. Removed and reinstalled Office and a host of other things.

The Microsoft company tech people were the least helpful; the only thing they know how to do is insult you.

This is what worked for me:
  • go to RUN from your start button
  • in the field type command
  • A black popup window will appear
  • at the prompt (flashing | ) type in cd\
  • this will take you to your root directory for the c drive
  • At the c:\> prompt type bcdedit.exe /set nx OptOut
  • Close all open windows
  • Reboot your computer
  • Try to open your Office application again
  • Don’t freak out when you get that same “do you want to run in safe mode?” Popup again.
  • answer yes
  • If the application opens – close down office
  • reopen the office application again - it should now open normally
This worked for me; I sure hope it fixes your concern too!
