I recently reinstalled Office 2003 under Windows XP Professional. Since then
I have been unable to open Access reports I have used for years or to create
new reports.
Please help. Both Office and Windows XP are fully up to date.

That is a common issue.
Instal a generic printer to a local port (like LPT1), you do not need to
have a printer connected.
Than all will be well.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, but that's not it. I had a laserjet installed on LPT1, but at your
suggestion I added a generic printer to that port. Back in Access, I still
cannot open any of my old reports.

I suspect you will have to reinstall Access/Office, I have not heard of any
other causes for these symptoms.
Sorry.
If needed, repost.

One cause for this is if the report is not using the Default
Printer (File - Page Setup menu) and your new machine does
not have the same printer configured the same way as the
other machine.

The printer does seem to be involved in this problem. When I first open the
database, both Print and Page Setup appear in the File menu, but when they
are clicked nothing happens. The same is true when a report is selected, but
when a query is selected or opened, Page Setup is grayed out. Reports cannot
be opened, and nothing can be printed. The default printer on this machine is
the same as on the previous machine and configured the same way (e.g., on
LPT1) except that now it is shared. My generic printer is now set to print to
file.

If no one has any better idea, I will reinstall Access. Is there any way of
doing this without reinstalling all of Office?

WE have the same problem, old reports do not run now. I has something to do
with a new printer on the network. Two out of three of the users can print
the old Access reports. The third one cannot now. the third user can print
in Excel and Word but not Access. It is not the database because the other
two users have no problem. Does network logins somehow control which
applications can use a default printer?

My work around for now is the third user just used another printer down the
hall. Does anyone know if Microsoft is addressing this bug?

Don't know about reinstall.

The couple of times I've run into this, I've been able to
get around the issue by installing the same printer driver
as the other machine (with the same name) so that I could
open the reports in design view and change the report's
printer settings.
