Unable to open new windows

I was using IE 5.5 and I couldn't open a new window. If I clicked
File--->New--->Window, nothing would happen. If I had one IE window open
and I double clicked the IE icon (ANY of them), nothing would happen. I
upgraded to IE6, but I still have the same problems. If I click a link that
is supposed to open in a new window, it will work. And I can leave that
window open and navigate to websites in it, as well as the original window.
But I can't create a new window on my own. Any ideas??

Have you tried making a "shortcut" icon on the desktop,
then putting that in the 'active' icons on the bottom
left bar? You should be able to make an icon on the
desktop if you go into Explorer c:\windows\explorer.exe
and right click, menu down to "Send to", Desktop(create a
shortcut. Then just drag the newly make blue ball with
the left mouse button down, down to the menu bar and drop
it there.
Good luck!

I already have a shortcut on my desktop for IE, and one in the Task Bar.
Clicking on either of these does nothing if IE is already open, as does
clicking the IE icon on my Start menu. I cannot create a second window
without clicking a link that I know will be opened in a new window. I
checked regedit thinking it might have something to do with preferences set
up there, but I couldn't find anything other than whether or not the window
is maximized when opened. I definitely think it is related to my profile
because if I log on to the computer as someone else I do not have this
problem. One of my colleagues encountered this once and he deleted the file
MSIMGSIZ.DAT in Documents and Settings\my username\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. Is anyone familiar
with this?

As far as I can tell, open new window only duplicates the window that
you already have open. If you want a second instance of IE, you need
to click your shortcut again.
