Hi,

Sounds like the file is corrupt. There is a tool called Advanced Excel
Repair. I have used it to repair many corrupt Excel xls files on my
damaged disks successfully. Its homepage is http://www.datanumen.com/aer/
If necessary, you can try the free demo first .

I had a similar problem in Excel 2007. Turned out to be caused by an
application Add-in. You might want to use the Office Button->Excel
Options->Add-ins and start disabling add-ins one at a time to figure out if
one of the active Add-ins is causing the problem. You can also open
C:\Documents and Settiing\"Your profile/logon name"\Applications\Microsoft\
and look for the Excel and Word folders. The Excel Folder will have a
subfolder called XLSTART, if there is any files in those folder, delete them.
In the Word folder, look for and delete files in the STARTUP subfolder.
This resolved the problem I had for a particular third-party Add-in which
caused EXCEL and/or Word to be able to function only in safe mode or else the
application crashed.
