After downloading several microsoft security docs that
were automaticaly sent from MS, I went to do my bi-
monthly maintence and compress files so that my computer
would run faster. When I hit the key so that it would
run "analyze my files" I will get a screen that opens for
less then 5 seconds and close. I have been able to open
it enough times to write down what is at the top of the
window. It reads as follows: "32\mmc.exewindows\system",
the box however is blank.
I have lost the ability to run my maintence files at it's
full capacity sense I have been downloading MS security
updates. I am very leary at this point to continue to
download these because of further damage to computer
programs. I have heard other people having problems
loosing files doing the same thing. Any help would be
appreciated.

Hi, Marie.

Are you SURE those "security docs" were "automaticaly sent from MS"?

One of the biggest problems these days are the phony "from MS" security
alerts. They are not from Microsoft at all. Some bad people have forged
the document to look like official MS material and they have also forged the
return address so that it looks like it came from Microsoft - but it did
not! Victims who comply with the message end up with one or more viruses.

Microsoft never sends update files by email. They may send warnings, but
the updates themselves come only from MS secure websites.

Have you run a full virus scan? Recently? What kind of firewall and
antivirus programs are you using?

I haven't heard of that error message you quote:
"32\mmc.exewindows\system". And neither has Google. Are you sure you typed
it exactly?

Too bad we can't be there to watch over your shoulder and see what's
happening. Since we can't, all we know is what you tell us. So far, it
doesn't sound familiar at all. Except for the part that sounds like those
phony "security alerts" that we've all been getting by the hundreds for the
past few months. :>(
