unable to open .exe files

My hard drive crashed recently so I had to re-load my operating system. Now,
I can not open .exe files. I get a message that "file is not suitable for
running..." and references the autoexec.nt file.
I tried to follow Microsoft's fix for this, but since all I have is a
recovery CD that came with my computer (E-machines), I can not locate that
original file to re-load it on my computer.
Any suggestions?

Hi,

Set folder options to see hidden and system files. Then look under
C:\Windows\I386 for the replacements.

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options, and on the View tab, set the options
so you can see hidden and system files. Specifically:

Enable (check) "Display the contents of system folders"
Enable (check) "Show hidden files and folders"
Disable (uncheck): "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)"

I also recommend that you disable (uncheck) "hide extensions for known file
types".
