unable to open .exe file

is there a fix it for dummies method that I can do to solve my
problem?

After days of reading and research (I am not computer literate) I
found that I have a trojan.wimad virus despite the fact that I have
AVG virus protection (the free version of course) I went out and
bought norton and tried to install it but I can't because of the
trojan virus! My files are not backed-up (live and learn) so I cant do
that recovery thing and i have no idea of what this registry thing is.
is there a fix it for dummies method that I can do to solve my
problem?
Please help me

Have you tried running AVG in Safe Mode ?
And what OS are you running ?

Sorry, but I think it was a bad idea to choose Norton over the AVG.

I have no clue why people think that because they have an antivirus that
they are safe.
Antivirus is a removal tool NOT a force field, almost every single computer
I work on has an AV installed on it and is infested with Virus' anyway.
I personally do not run an antivirus at all, (I will run Dave's tool once in
a while or do an online scan) Virus free 4 years now.

Boot to safe mode scan from there, that's a start.
run Spybot, Adaware too, if it persist then post back and we can look for
Rootkits, or Smithfraud
Ultimately you can boot to CD and run Dave's removal tool if we can get you
a broadband connection.
or you have the option to remove the hard drive and scan it with another PC.

Please repost with more information, including the operating
system in use on the affected computer.

The files listed here are all ZIP files, which contain a REG (Registry)
file. Download the ZIP and open it. Extract the REG file to your hard
disk and double click it. Answer yes to the import prompt. REG files
can be viewed in Notepad. Each of the REG files contains the default
settings for the file extension indicated. For the ZIP file fix, the
download is a REG file, since ZIP's aren't working anyway!

NOTE: If your EXE file associations are corrupted, it can be difficult
to open REGEDIT, or to even import REG files. To work around this,
press CTRL-ALT-DEL and open Task Manager. Once there, click File, then
hold down the CTRL key and click New Task (Run). This will open a
Command Prompt window. Enter REGEDIT.EXE and press Enter.
