Unable to open document link

I am trying to access a document via a link on the internet. When I click on
a link that connects to a PDF file, the document opens correctly. But when I
click on a link that connects to an Excel spreadsheet, it does not open. I do
get the dialog box that asks whether I want to open or save, but when I click
on "open":

The dialog box goes away --> it vaguely appears that something flashes on
the screen --> and then nothing, no Excel document opens.

I have several PCs, but only one of them is having trouble opening these
Excel spreadsheets. Any ideas on how to fix my problem?

There's probably a problem with your file types association open command
that may need to be fixed in the registry. See the Resolution section of
this article for possible help:

Make sure the path to your version of Excel is correct, too.
