Unable to open .doc files. Need assistance after crash.

I am not able to open .doc files through my hotmail account. I am trying to learn new tricks constantly after my computer had a total breakdown. I have been able to solve all of my difficulties via reading posts on this newsgroup, but I find myself needing a little more assistance. Please provide some assistance. Thanks.

Are you using Outlook Express to read your hotmail?
If so, maybe this will help:
In OE under Tools-Options-Security take away the checkmark in front of
"don't open attachments that can contain a virus"
