Unable to open default email folder

I recently re"started" my system by formatting and reinstalling the
OS. With outlook 2003, I saved the PST files (archive.pst and
outlook.pst) and opened them with my new setup system in Outlook 2003.

I thought that Outlook 2003 would make a "copy" of the PST files and
place them in the appropriate Documents and Settings folder. However,
it didn't. Instead, whenever I try to open Outlook now, I get the
"unable to open default email folder." followed by it saying that it
can't locate the outlook pst file in the folder from which I first
imported it. That folder no longer exists (it was on an external HD
whose drive letter has now been assigned to my DVD-RW drive). I'm
given no option to open any other files and the program simply shuts
down.

I tried opening Outlook in safe mode to no avail (I get the same error
msg).

Any workarounds for this?

was the old pst on a cdr and you restored it to your hard drive? if so, did you
remove the read only flag from its properties?

control panel, mail applet... open your profile and change the default delivery
location to use the old pst if you have it or create a new one.

Diane, thank you soooo much... that did the trick... I copied the pst files
to the hard drive and changed the delivery location... she's good as new...

Thanks again...
