Unable to open address book in IE6

I have just performed a migration using the files and settings wizard from a
98 machine to an XP box. All is well except that it seems like the address
book function is corrupt in IE. Everytime I try and open the IE address book
on the XP box I get "Unable to open address book" "The address book may not
be installed properly". Even if I try and right-click and use the "Add
sender to address book" function I get nothing.

I have tried uninstalling Outlook express from Add/remove programs and then
adding it back with with no luck. I can still access the address book on the
98 machine. I even tried to import a CSV from the CSV but the import option
does not come up.

Ideas???

More problems, Thumper?

OE user files in WinXP are located in a different location than in Win98.
See http://support.microsoft.com/?id=kb;en-us;q313055.

1. Locate Address Book (username.wab) in Windows Explorer. NB: In
WindowsXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden.
To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and
Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

To find these files using Windows Explorer Search (*.wab), tick the Advanced
option and the three (3) options under it.

2. Right-click on username.wab > Properties > Remove any Read Only or Hidden
attribute.

If still no joy, is MS Outlook (or MS Office) also installed?

1. Do you have this Registry key?...

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
\Software
\Microsoft
\WAB
\WAB4

2. If not, STOP; If so, is there a DWORD named UseOutlook and is its value
set to 1 (one)?

3. If not, STOP; If so, Address Book is configured to share contacts with
Outlook, even if you don't use it (can happen with the install of Office).
Change the value to 0 (zero), Address Book should be available to you and
all should be well. (If that DWORD is not present, don't create it, and
don't alter any other DWORD values.)
