name and password and i have tried every combination and i cant get in, i use
AVG free version 9 fro virus protection - i read in another message this can
sometimes affect it. i am getting the same message as the other person who
had the same problem, they were using norton anti virus. can you help me
please

First, test your password by logging in to your provider's webmail.
If that works, it proves you have the correct username and password.
A likely reason for the username/password failing is account corruption.
One thing you should try as a possible quick fix is to delete that corrupted
mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that doesn't fix it, more drastic measures will have to be taken.
Your AVG antivirus was probably installed with its default install option,
which installs an email scanning module. Disabling it's email scanning is
not a sufficient remedy. Uninstall AVG, then reinstall, but select 'custom'
install, which then allows you to unselect installing its troublesome email
scanning module.

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

hi
thanks for your reply, I have tried to log in via webmail and it says that I
need to enable cookies but it has never said that to me before and I have
also tried to acess it from other computers and been unable to log in - my e
mail is fsnet so now managed by orange.
I will try the other option of uninstalling avg and reinstalling without the
e mail scanner.

If you mean fsmail.net then that type of account is web based only.

If your ISP was Freeserve or Wanadoo, now Orange they would have provided
you with an email address that will work in a mail client like WM.

In addition to Steve's comment, if you have trouble logging in to
webmail, that needs to be fixed first. Call your mail provider for
help with that.
The reinstall of AVG is not likely to cure this particular problem,
but it is something that needs to be done anyway, to prevent
future issues caused by email scanning.
