Hi,

out of the blue when I access my windows mail it is asking for my user name
and password, I've tried all variations I can think off without luck, I'm
receiving the following message, any solutions?

Account: 'Home', Server: 'pop3.blueyonder.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server
Response: '-ERR Protocol error.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC91

thanks,

NBF

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not enabled.

If that setting was correct, which antivirus are you running? Some of them
cause problems with Windows Mail over time.

Thanks for the reply Gary, the 'Log on....... etc' is not enabled, I'm using
Norton 360, updated August 09,

Norton security products are among the top three troublemakers for
Windows Mail. Symptoms often don't surface until several months have
gone by, or until an update occurs.
First, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Disabling the Norton program is often insufficient. If so, do a trial uninstall,
followed by using their debris removal tool:

Instead of uninstalling your antivirus, another option is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of overly
intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail
