Have Vista Ultimate (upgraded from Home Premium 6 months ago).
Has been working with no problems. Today, go to log in and the account
userid and password are not accepted... incorrect username or password. The
information entered is correct... and it is not an issue with the CAPS LOCK!
No recent changes to the system... ie. no password change, no issues with
shutdown, etc.. Unfortunately... now I can not log into the system. Login
has changed stating a NEW option to RESET PASSWORD... strange... it is as if
the user's credentials have somehow been tampered with or corrupted.
In Windows XP you could press CTRL-ALT-DEL to get traditional login.
Is this gone in Vista?
I also see that the default Administrator account is disabled by default...
I see there are some references on this forum for password reset as well as
on knowledgebase for Vista...
The only thing I can think of as to what has caused this problem is Vista
corruption or malware. Unfortunately do NOT have another Administrator
account defined on the laptop... also do NOT have RESET disk for user account.
Any suggestions to resolving this problem?
1. System restore... with Vista DVD ?
2. Safe mode... ?
3. Rebuild?
4. Other?
Thanks!
