Unable to locate Network Resource?!

I've got an XP PRO machine that I'm trying to use a
workgroup server. There is NO domain controller, nothing
fancy at all, just a box running XP Pro with about 6
folders shared on it.

However, more and more frequently I'm having to restart
the machine due to all of the client machines being
unable to locate the network shares.

Everything that is being done on this workgroup server is
done as a part of the file sharing. There isn't anything
actually running on the server. It's just sharing files.

For example, Visual Source Safe is being kept there - but
VSS doesn't run anything on the server, the clients
themselves do the sharing through the shared files on the
server.

Has anyone run into this - or anything similar?

On possibility that has me concerned is that I was
vaguely recalling that in Windows 2000 workstation, the
OS limited incoming connections to it's shares to 10
connections maximum (where 2k server had a much greater
limit, maybe no limit at all). We've got about 15
connections peak here, so if it really is some small
number like 10, or if it counts one connection per share
per user program connection, then it could potentially
see some 100+ connections. Does anyone know anything
about this either?

Thanks for any ideas you might have in advance,

Steve Wolf

From initial testing, so far this looks like it is being caused by Act for
Windows version 6.0.

Having removed their files from the server, and placed them on another
machine temporarily, it appears that our server is running fine, but that
the new Act server box is losing it's ability to be seen from the network.
