Hello,

I'm unable to install or update a driver in w2k (sp4). When installing new
hardware it ask for the driver, finds the driver and ends with message "An
error occured during the installation of the device. The system cannot find
the file specified.". This message also appears when updating a driver even
when I select the same driver. After this the device gets the question mark
and will be unavailable for use. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance,
Dennis

Is this a driver from hardware site or Winupdate, these drivers are often
generic and can give problems.
What is the device?

Thanks for the reply, the problem occurs always, doesn't matter which driver
I will be installing and doesn't matter which device it belongs to. A user
at the company, wanted to install a USB device driver an got an error, now
every driver I want to update/install/upgrade ends in the error message as
described below. I tried this als with the gameport controller, and
installed the same driver which was installed and got the same problem.
Uninstalling the device and detecting doesn't work also, the device will be
found but I get the same error when installing the driver. It happens with
all drivers, standard windows drivers, official vendor drivers, all....

Weird problem, the solution was turning down te computer, remove the power
cord so the mainbord was completely powerless. Then start W2k and it works
again!
