Unable to install SP4

Hi, I have recently tried to reapply SP4 to a W2k server. The files unpacked
ok but when the install started it got no further than 'Checking your current
configuration' . Have also tried to install other progams such as an
Anti-virus upgrade but this would also not install. Also, contol panel and
my network places seemed to hang and would not open. Anyone any ideas?
