Hi,

Please help. We just bought an HP5500 laserjet printer
and put it on our network. However, we cannot get it to
print color since the driver is set to HP 5000 Series.
I am unable to install the latest driver to it. The message
is as follows:
"Unable to install HP Color LaserJet 5500 PCL6, Windows
2000, Intel driver. The specified print monitor is
unknown."

Any suggesions and/or responses is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
arch23

Is this a cluster machine? If it is not a cluster are you installing the
driver remotely? If it is failing on a remote installation try to add the
driver locally.

Sorry I wasn't too clear. It is a 2000 server we are
trying to install the driver on and it is failing on a
remote installation. I was able to add the printer to the
server using the article below, but now when trying to
change the driver from a 5000 series to a 5500, it almost
looks like it will complete copying files, but it
doesn't. The printer does not have color printing feature
as an option and it could be because the right driver
isn't installed.

Hope to hear from you again. thanks much.

If the driver is already installed on the server, go to Printer Properties,
Advanced. The driver currently in use is listed, expand the listview and
select the driver that you need to assign to the device. Apply, you might
not see a color profile for the device but the UI should now be for the
5500.

Thanks for your help. It worked and so did the color
functionality. Thanks for your quick replies.
