To recover from a system crash I had to reinstall Windows ME. After reinstalling Windows ME I tried to update the reinstalled version of Internet Explorer from version 5.5 to version 6. The upgrade fails. I get the error message "Setup was unable to install all the components. Please close all applications and try running Setup again."
This error message is addressed in MS Knowledge Base Article 303399. There are a number of resolution methods that are recommended to be followed in the order they're presented. I'm to the point of trying Method 3: Verify the Size and the Location of the Swap File.
When I access the dialog for specifying the virtual memory settings I notice the following notation for the hard disk:
C:\ -7046MB Free
Am I interpreting this notation correctly; namely that my system is reporting a 'negative' amount of free memory? Or is this simply a dash, separating the partition (C:\) from the value for free memory?
What's the significance of a negative value, if that's what's being reported, and how can this be corrected?
There are no other available partitions to choose from.
