tWhen I atempt to install Vista the installation begins and I get a screen
with a color bar moving across the middle of the screen. After a few minutes
the bar locks up. Is this normal. If not what should I do to correct this
problem.

You might describe your install in a little more detail, like are you trying
to dual boot, is Vista on a clean hard drive by itself, have you tried
reburning the DVD at a slower speed, did you check the CRC with MD5 after
you downloaded? Also type of computer or motherboard and processor type.
Which version of Vista? Are you getting any messages at all?

And no, it is not normal.

I have the same problem - when booting the x64 RC1 from the newly downloaded
..iso file and created dvd. System boots from DVD, a progress bar appears
telling me that it is copying files and then it gets to end (of progress bar)
and screen goes black. No menu's appear, just locks up. I have downloaded and
burned DVD several times.

4 GB ram
2 250 GB sata drives in a RAID 0 config

what gives?

Hi all,

got the same problem.
But can't get any information. I nearly tried all possibilities (completely
changed memory, changed DVD-Drive, tested all possible BIOS-Settings,
deactivated/activated all on-board components etc.).
No success.
XP is running on the same system but separate HD without any problem.
I bought 80 GB SATA Samsung to have Vista completely separated.

@awatters:
I only see one point in your system that makes me think of a general problem.
You also have 975x Chipset. Hopefully it's not the reason.

My System:
Board: MSI 975x Premium (MS-7246)
CPU: Intel 940 D (Presler Core)
RAM: 2x1024 MB Corsair (CM2X1024-5400C4)
HD: SATA Samsung 250 GB & SATA Samsung 80 GB
GPU: NVIDIA 7900 GT (256 MB)

The sad point is that all friends running older systems don't have any
problems.
