I have tried multiple times to install the fax function of XPpro on the Dell
Latitude D620 running XPpro SP2. I am current on all updates, etc. I have
searched multiple forums and no one has been able to give me a solution.
When I go through the installation process, I get to the fax wizard and the
fax console, but when I try to launch the Send Fax Wizard, I get a pop up
that the "Fax server information cannot be retrieved. The Fax Wizard will
close now."
One forum advised that the Dell version of XPpro as installed had been
flawed and I should bypass it and try to install fax from the CD. I did
that. It was laborious because the set up would not recognize files on the
cd that I could see were there and I had to manually navigate to them. I did
however manage to manually load them to the point that the program worked to
create a fax system on the computer ONE TIME. It could never be replicated.
I have talked to Dell and they are willing to broker a three-way
conversation with Microsoft for me, but frankly, every experience I have had
with this group has been better than that route. Can you guys rally to the
challenge? Thanks.
