Unable to import or link tables through odbc in Access SP2

I recently upgraded Office to SP2. Now, whenever I'm in Access and I click
File...Get External Data...Link Tables... and I click on Files of Type and
select ODBC, the entire dialog box disappears. This never used to happen
when prior to upgrading to SP2. Now I can't link to any tables. Has anyone
else run into this?

I am having the same problem - working with microsoft tech to fix it.

are you running norton anti-virus 2006?

Yes, I am running Norton Antivirus 2006 and Norton Internet Security.
However, the problem still occurs even with Norton disabled. I'm wondering
if there is a problem with MDAC. I'm running the MDAC 2.8 sp 1 on Windows XP.

Dave ... I, too, just started having the same problem. I would be curious to
see how many others are having this problem and if anyone has come up with a
solution.

Mark,

I have had this problem for about a month or so but do not know what the
trigger was for the fault. Was running Access 2000 under Windows 2000 with a
MySQL ODBC link. Used to work fine, then would no longer show the table
dialog and would lose the ODBC links to a database where they were working.
I was able to refresh the links by trying to reconnect - although the table
dialog still did not appear.

Since then I upgraded to Access 2003, but now any attempt to do an ODBC link
just crashes Access, and of course the existing links do not work. The MySQL
database is accessible both through its direct facilities and also through an
ODBC link with Excel. It is just Access that is the problem.

I have reloaded the ODBC drivers, the Jet SP8, and Access - all with no
success.

Dave,
Sorry for the delay - but, yes, as proven by a microsoft tech and myself, it
appears that NAV2006 is interferring with the odbc wizard if you install SP2
for Office 2003.
(even if you disable it)

we used regmen and filemon to see the files. (looks like the wizard is
being stopped from starting for some reason).

I used a clean machine (no NAV 2006) and installed SP2 for office. It
worked fine. Once I installed NAV 2006 - no more odbc for me.

I have sent all my information to symantec, as microsoft says they can't do
anything about it (nav 2006 problem they say).

It was suggested to me to remove Nav 2006 - but I'm not going to do that.
I have found if you make a DB on a machine without the NAV installed, and
move it to the affected machine, you can use the odbc links, you just can't
select new ones.

if symantec ever gets back to me - i will post...
