I am running Windows XP Home edition with Outlook XP and have workgroupmail
as my mail server. I access the workgroupmail's POP account with a local IP
address and all was fine until I installed XP service pack 2. When I now
test the account settings I get "The specified server was found, but there
was no response from the server, please verify that the port and SSL
information is correct". If I plug in my ISP's POP and SMTP address then I
can log on fine. This is your standard ports on 110 and 25, if XP had
blocked these ports I would have thought that I would not be able to log in
to my ISP directly. I also turned off the XP firewall and other PC's on my
network can access the machine no problem (though mail doesent work on the
other PC's either).

Any help appreciated

Steve

SP-2 for Windows XP?

You do realize this is beta software, is not to be discussed in non-NDA
newsgroups, and if you received it from an unauthorized source, your machine
is now in unsupported mode, correct?

Also he is running the old SP2 software which did have its problems. There
have been a fair number ( and especially in Australia where he is located)
that have found download sites. MS is shutting them down rather fast, but
they keep coming back. Your of course 100% correct on the NDA. But if this
was a beta tester, he would know where to ask the questions.
