hi, my pc's performance is slow i have a 2 gig processor
with 20 gig hdd and 10 gig available, 512mb ddr. i
checked for viruses found none. went to do a defrag of
the drive and it starts, gets to about 13% defragmenting
then says it is complete and some files couldn't be
defragmented. i increased the virtual memory as suggested
from a past post, that didn't help. i tried it in safe
mode and still can't defrag the files. i did an error
check of the drive and it says everything is hokey dokey.
i thought maybe dead sectors but that wasn't it? or was
it... any other suggestions i can try.
thanks,
john

Have you checked for adaware and spyware? Have you
cleaned your temp folder, internet history and temporary
internet files?

thanks for the link. i downloaded it and installed after
they wanted my fgi profile. it worked great but when i
deleted it because i don't want to pay for the program it
went back to the old fragged status, any other
suggestions?

Is the hard disk partitioned? A minimum of 15 % free space is required to run Disk Defragmenter. What free space does the drive / partition being defragmented have? How large is the largest file on the drive / partition.

Are you seeing all files or are some hidden? Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings. Are you using any Norton utilities?
