I recently upgraded to Windows XP Pro. After that, I have
not been able to reinstall and get any printer to work.
YES, I have gone to their websites and got the latest
drivers for XP.

It always fails at the very end of installation with the
error message "installation failed, cannot find port".
This has happened on LPT1 and USB. I have not been able
to use either one. Please help, Microsoft Tech support
has not been able to help me on this one.

Right click on My Computer and select Properties. On the Hardware tab,
click on Device Manager.

Scroll down until you see the line Com and LPT ports and click on the + to
expand the tree. Are there any yellow exclamation points next to the LPT
entry?

Look for the line Universal Serial Bus Controllers... again, click on the +
to expand the tree. Are there any yellow marks here?

Can the USB ports be used for other devices? Do those other devices
function correctly?

I am having a very similar problem with an HP DeskJet 895
Printer and thought to try here for help. When
attempting to install the printer according to
instructions from the HP web site all goes well except
that I see no USB ports to connect to. Did I forget
something when I install XP? Please help.
