I have just loaded xp home edition onto a new hard drive, before doing this I made a back up of the files I wanted to keep, using windows 98.

Now I cannot find the commands in XP to restore the backup.

Any help would be appreciated

'Fraid this is another example of MS not doing joined-up thinking - XP
Backup WILL NOT READ W98 Backup!!!!!!!!!!

Why oh WHY did MS not think about this?

There's NO POINT in telling the OP about that - XP backup will NOT recognise
W98 Backups! Another example of MS not doing joined-up thinking - the other
good one is that Outlook 2002 will not recognise account settings exported
from Outlook 2000!!!!! Do the people at MS do ANY thinking at all?

Yes I have found this out on another subject. Their they supplied a link to a download from Zdnet, enabling me to restore the files

At least I now know how to make future backups with XP, But your correct, that MS are a little shortsighted in not being able to restore win 98 files to an XP system, which is critical when you are upgrading. The info that comes with the CD recomends backing up your software before loading XP.

Could you post the link? I'd be very interested in it.

Thanks

They wrote 'File and Settings Transfer Wizard' instead which can run
on older Windows and XP. So you can backup files between 98 and XP.
